Alan Wasserman is an accomplished pianist, pedagogue and composer, whose work has been concentrated in the New York/New Jersey metropolitan area for 28 years. A magna cum laude graduate of Rowan University in Glassboro, NJ, he studied with the notable teachers and performers Mischa Portnoff and Veda Zuponcic in New Jersey and Roberto Bravo in London. He has actively continued to refine his knowledge and technique following college by individual study with acclaimed performer Alan Feinberg and the founder of The Golandsky Institute, Edna Golandsky in New York. While his main focus has been classical piano, he has also explored and studied other genre, such as jazz piano with Adolph Sandole and Classical theory/composition with Joel Thome in New York.

As Artistic Director of Rasa, the noted ensemble for contemporary music, he has appeared in the United States and abroad in numerous performances of his music and the music of other composers. In 1991, Mr. Wasserman was participating in the first International Pedagogy Conference held at the famed Moscow Conservatory when coincidental with (but unrelated to) his visit, the coup that forced the fall of the Soviet Union took place!

More recently, as President of the historic Cecilian Music Club, Mr. Wasserman participated in the 2004 Shanghai International Children’s Cultural Arts Festival in China, a five day event featuring 48 troupes from 20 countries. A highlight of the performances included 40 American students joining with 60 Chinese students to present a “Monster Concert” for 100 pianos. Mr. Wasserman returned to Shanghai for the 2007 festival with a troupe of young performers of piano and orchestral instruments.

Here in the U.S., he has recently debuted and recorded two compositions by Bill Milbrodt for the CarMusicProject.com, which feature piano with an ensemble of instruments created from a 1982 Honda Accord.

Mr. Wasserman is a past President of the prestigious Music Educators Association of New Jersey. As a 25 year participant of the Dorothy Taubman Institute of Piano and Edna Golandsky Institute Summer Sessions, he has helped many pianists that have become injured through inefficient finger and arm motions. His private piano students range from 5 year old through octogenarians.

Wasserman’s repertoire and musical interest is widely varied, ranging from classical, folk and jazz to new age meditational music. His recent Guided Listening Series CD’s showcase his unique style of performing, where he engages his audience by informing them about the lives and inspirations of history’s greatest composers.

Mr. Wasserman has performed a wide variety of musical genres in an array of venues. He is equally comfortable lecturing at Steinway Hall in New York as entertaining at Health Spas. Presenting programs at pre-schools through retirement communities, Alana receives enthusiastic response from people of all ages.

Alan is also a Chi Kung and Tai Chi ‘player’, a black belt in Tai Kwon Do, and a student of yoga.
